Ndumo Game Reserve

Visit the Ndumo Wilderness Camp
in the Ndumo Game Reserve

The Ndumo Game Reserve in which the Wilderness Camp is situated, is considered by many to be the finest bird watching anmd wild animal locality in South Africa - over 400 species (60% of South Africa's birds) having been recorded.

Ndumo Game Reserve Green coucal, gorgeous bush shrike, pinkthroated twinspot and African broadbill are among the "specials" resident throughout the year.

It is one of South Africa's most superb safari camps with luxury-tented rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The entire camp is raised up on wooden decks inter-linked by walkways under the canopies of giant fig trees.

Time at Ndumo is mostly spent on nature walks and drives through forests of fig trees and the surrounding bush. Drives in open 4x4 vehicles around the various scenic pans are a highlight, and boating along the waterways is permitted, depending on water levels.

Ndumo - formerly known as Ndumu

The Ndumo Game Reserve Game Reserve - formerly known as Ndumu - is one of South Africa's most scenic parks. Situated in the Maputaland Elephant Coast, Ndumo has often been compared to Botswana's Okavango Delta. Surrounded by fever trees, Nyamithi and Banzi Pans are the focal points in the reserve.

These pans are on the Pongola and Usutu floodplains and attract waterfowl in large numbers. Ndumo is not well known, even to many South Africans. It is built on the edge of Banzi Pan.
