Breede River Lodge
From the moment we arrived, we knew this was a special place. You could see the river in all its glory having wound its way from far off Ceres to eventually meet the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, alongside the lodge.
Our hosts warmly welcomed us with genuine hospitality of good South African 'geselligheid'. From the open leisure deck overlooking the quaint harbour with its bobbing boats, we watched the fiery African sun setting over the tranquil waters of San Sebastian Bay.
This is the Cape's premier fishing estuary and boasts a history of record catches of Spotted Grunter, Learvis, Cob and White Steenbras. For the fishing or boating enthusiast, there is a private harbour with ample mooring facilities and a slipway. One can also charter a boat for a wonderful day of river adventures.
The thatched restaurant, with its homely atmosphere offered delectable Cape countryside cusine, with fresh fish, local oysters and Bouillabaisse. The cosy pub was buzzing with friendly chatter, fisherman's stories, whale sightings and recollections of yet another wonderful day.
